OF FAITH LUTHERAN CHURCH

PREAMBLE: In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, amen. We, baptized members of the Church of Christ, responding in faith to the call of the Holy Spirit through the Gospel, desiring to unite together to preach the Word, administer the sacraments, and carry out God's mission, do hereby adopt this constitution and solemnly pledge ourselves to be governed by its provisions.

July 1954 marked the start of worship services at Simon Perkins Junior High School for what today is known as Faith Lutheran Church. Shortly thereafter, our first constitution and by laws were written and approved by the congregation. This constitution served our congregation for over 30 years.

In 1988, the Lutheran Church in America (LCA), of which Faith Lutheran was a member congregation, merged with the American Lutheran Church (ALC). This merger brought together two thirds of ALL Lutherans in the US under one body - The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA)

This merger required all ELCA congregations to update their constitutions. Faiths church council chose to take this opportunity to completely re-write our constitution to better serve the congregation for the 1990's and beyond.

A constitution committee consisting of five members was formed in May of 1991. I Chaired the committee made up of Deb Allen, Chuck Baltes, Mike Chaffee and Ed Rich. The committee completed its first draft in the fall of 1992, which was then approved by the congregation at the annual meeting on November 15, 1997.

Over the next three years, a number of modifications were made in dialogue with the ELCA Constitution Review Committee. The final document was then approved by the congregation at the annual meeting on November 19, 1995. The document represents over four years of effort and countless hours of work and is represented in its entirety.
