Reports of Committees, Teams and Groups

Global Outreach- Mark and Chris reported that banners will hang on either side of the canopy at the front of the church to advertise our Easter services.

They will put information regarding Holy Week services in the local newspapers.

On April 3, a group of adults from Faith will go to Fairlawn Town Center and hand out plastic Easter eggs containing candy and a note with our worship service times. The youth team will be preparing the eggs.

Tickets are available for purchase to see “Passion of the Christ” movie on March 27. The group will meet at church following the movie for discussion and beverages.

A display ad will be placed in the first edition of Fairlawn Magazine which will be distributed to homes in Montrose, Copley, Bath and Fairlawn. The theme of the ad will be “Three Worships to Fit Your Style.”

Learning- Karen and Deb distributed the Explorer Club Newsletter highlighting their schedule of spring events. Karen also submitted an overview of youth team events that have taken place. The Preschool Board will meet tomorrow.

Property- If anyone notices any work that needs to be done in or around the church, please bring it to the attention of Ken and/or Ole.

Tom Pinto, who is working toward becoming an Eagle Scout, will perform a service project at Faith by landscaping the west side of our property. In order for him to obtain his badge, Tom must complete the project by August 14. All labor will be donated, and at least 75% of the material costs will be donated to the Scouts. The Property Team will obtain bids on the cost to landscape the remainder of the property.

Worship- Pat reported that we will go to St. Hilary on Palm Sunday. There will be communion at the Maundy Thursday service. Council members will help strip the altar. St. Hilary members will come to Faith for the Good Friday service. The Easter services will be held at 7:30, 9:00 and 10:45 a.m.

Website- Groups should keep Ed Rich informed of their activities to ensure that the website is current.

    Old Business

Request from History Group- At the request of the History Group, Ken moved to take $5,000 from the Memorial Fund for maintaining and presenting historical materials. Ole seconded and the motion passed.

Theme for Faith’s 50th Anniversary- Mark and Chris will consider this and enlist help.

Increasing the Special Assistance Fund- This has been referred to the Finance Team. They will meet at the beginning of April.

Neighboring church surveys- Council members completed the surveys on the worship practices of neighboring churches. Carolyn will compile the results and distribute them at a future meeting.

    New Business

The Church and Homosexuality Study- Six area congregations will join together to participate in a six-week ELCA study in preparation for the 2005 churchwide assembly. This study will focus on two issues: first, whether or not to allow clergy who identify themselves as homosexuals to be in committed relationships (currently, they must be celibate); and second, whether or not the church will bless same-sex unions. These issues will be voted on at the National Assembly in 2005. The study sessions will take place from 7-8 p.m. on April 25, May 2, May 16, May 23, June 6 and June 13 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Norton. Members of Faith are encouraged to attend.

New members- A “Welcome to Faith” gathering will be held on Sunday, April 25 at 11:50 a.m. New Members will join Faith during the 9:15 service on Sunday, May 2.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:05 p.m. and closed with a prayer.

    Respectfully submitted,

    Kit Scheetz
    Council Secretary
