Reforming Ourselves as Church

Greetings to all!

Are you tired about hearing  that we are celebrating the 500th anniversary of Martin Luther's reformation?

I've been thinking a lot about it lately.

On the women's retreat we did last spring we talked about reformation and all the RE words that spring to mind.  Our list was seemingly endless!

Repent, renew, rejoice, resurrection, respond, respect, refuel, relavent, relative, reup, reuse, rebuild - - -you get the picture.

While celebrating the resurrection is certainly about remembering and honoring our past...I suspect that true reformation needs to happen again.  True reformatin needs to be found in changes we make in the future.

Life long Lutherans are steeped and love tradition.  I am among them.  But neither Martin nor Jesus Christ ever intended for us to worship the past.  To remain stagnant.  To cease to change and move into new (and sometimes) uncomfortable territory.

So what about it?  How can we reform who we are and how we do ministry?  How do we honor the past but stilll turn the world on its ear?

I look foward to your comments.
