Pastor Sauer (1956)
Made by: Joyce Lightle
Each pastor's square on this quilt features a shepherd's staff in different colors and includes an open Bible, a shell representing Baptism, and bread and wine signifying Communion. Pastor Kenneth H. Sauer was installed as Faith's first pastor on February 13, 1956. A parsonage at 29 Ross Drive in Akron was purchased in June 1956 and the Sauers family moved there in September of that year. The 18-year tenure of Pastor Sauer provided stability and sound leadership and contributed to the decisions, made in faith by congregation members, to construct the three building units which comprise the present facility. Pastor Sauer was elected Bishop of the Ohio Synod in June 1973, and was installed at Faith church on September 9, 1974. Now retired, Bishop Sauer and his wife live in Columbus, Ohio.
