    YOUTH on MISSION

On Sunday, January 6, from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m., high school students interested in the mission trip to South Dakota in July will meet to discuss fundraisers and the creation of a web site.

    MEMORIZE THE CATECHISM

In Luther's Small Catechism, the Apostles' Creed is divided into three articles: the Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit. For each article, Luther answered the question What does this mean or What is this. High School Students have until May 19th to memorize and recite each of the three explanations.

The first 12 students to do so will receive a $20.00 gift certificate to either Best Buy or Borders Books and Music.

See John for a copy of the Small Catechism or for more details. Good Luck!

    YOUTH ON MISSION

Our Mission Statement A place where teens come together to build friendships, character and a relationship with GOD by helping others.

Something exciting is growing in out Youth Room! No ..... we're not talking Fungi here, we're talking about teenagers gathering to put together something bigger than themselves.....Youth on Mission.

Our first mission trip to Pine Ridge, South Dakota was so inspiring, all who went wanted to make a commitment to return. But not just to return! They wanted to return better prepared to give of themselves, their minds, souls and spirits.....to better become "the hands and feet of God." Every person who experienced that trip came back with more. More what? More friends, more self-confidence, more knowledge, more empathy, more sense of adventure, many more aches and pains and most amazingly....more of a truer connection to GOD.

I think it was about then that our wise and wonderful Youth Director slyly pointed out that in order to make our dreams come true, we needed a mechanism to support our youth in their missionary growth.

So, this gathering of young minds is striving to establish not just a mechanism to return themselves to Pine Ridge next summer, but, to create a mechanism for all Faith Youth, present and future, to support a mission greater than themselves.

If you are a Teen or parent of a Teen or someone who thinks like a Teen, please know that you are welcome to join in on our Youth On Mission meetings that are held at the church the first Sunday of every month from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. All questions can be addressed to me, Mrs. Penov 330-634-8176 330-666-1295 (home) or penov@csbmrdd.com or our fearless Youth director, John Maroni. 330-836-8811 (church)

    Our Call Committee Update

The Call Committee met with Judy Hoshek from the Synod Office on November 8 and received the names of 3 pastoral candidates. We have set up interviews with each of the 3 individuals. We are conducting our interviews in late November and early December. We are also going to visit the candidates' congregations in December (if possible) and January so that we may see each of them "in action". A round of second interviews may occur in January, as well.

The committee is excited to be entering this phase of our search and we ask that you keep us in your prayers as God guides us through the interview process. As always, contact any one of us with your thoughts.

    Rummage Sale Update

The 10th Annual Rummage Sale is over and done. The true work, however, has just begun. The proceeds will now go to work to help Faith's church, it's people and the world beyond our doors.

The total proceeds were apporximately $5,800! The Friday night Preview Sale, Silent Auction and Dinner raised $2,000. Wow! This money was raised for "John Maroni Appreciation Night" and intended to defray John's seminary expenses. Faith friends supported John in a big way.

The remaining $3,800 will fund many projects. Below is an incomplete list of those projects:

    1. Paint and carpet the cradle room
    2. Provide matching funds for the Youth's South Dakota trip in 2002
    3. Provide funding for the Vacation Bible School, LOMO
    4. Air conditioning for the Bridal/Choir Room
    5. Paint the Library
    6. Funding support for our Boy Scout Troop (who haul away our Rummage Sale leftovers to Goodwill Industries and Good Neighbors)
    7. Provide children's coats to Seeds for Change at Margaret Park School
    8. Special donations to Haven of Rest, Open M and Seeds for Change.

We thank you for your energy and enthusiasm in supporting the Rummage Sale. It's not an easy job. But good things never are.

    Lutheran Adoption Network

Have you ever wondered if you could adopt a child from overseas? Lutheran Child and Family Services is now networked with other Lutheran agencies around the world to find "forever" families for children currently living in orphanages in Russia and in seven other countries. Although the staff of these facilities try to do their best for the children, resources are limited and often such basics as food, clothing, medical care, and individual attention are sorely lacking.

Lutheran Adoption Network agencies are trying to untangle the red tape, reduce the geographical, cultural, and legal barriers, and unite these children with loving parents. Applications are accepted from single adults as well as from married couples under the age of 50. Applicants should be in good health and with no criminal record.

Call LCAFS in Cleveland at (216) 281-2500 for more details.

    Church Christmas Decorating

Please mark your calendars for Faith's Christmas decorating party which will be held on Friday evening, December 14th. Pizza and soft drinks will be served at 5:30 p.m., followed by the decorating. Remember.....many hands make light work! Please RSVP to Sally Butler (330-659-2441) or Laurie Fenton (330-659-2103) so that we know how much pizza to order.

    Weddings

Tressa Thompson and Jonathan Hartsell were married on October 6, 2001 in Greer, S.C. and Jennifer Climer and Matthew Vernon were married on October 21, 2001 in Kauai, Hawaii.

    Faith Fellowship Callers

On Thursday evening, November 15th, fourteen "Faith Fellowship Callers" met at the church and called about 150 of our members. We needed about 22 volunteers to reach all of our congregation. Everyone enjoyed this "chat" with members and it serves a way of sharing God's love with others. We did receive several requests to be added to our "prayer list." We found that two of our members were recently admitted to a "care" facility and we notified Pastor Deborah so she might visit them.

Our next "calling event" will be Thursday, January 31st at 6:30 p.m.. Please feel free to join us and I'm sure you also, will be blessed by this.

    Bill Pope

    Stewardship Corner

    Stewardship Corner from Lutheran Brotherhood

    · I'm glad this church needs money! If it didn't, it would mean it was not supporting missionaries and preaching the Gospel in other places. No missionary zeal.

    · I'm glad this church needs money! If it didn't, it would mean it was not doing anything to support the homeless, helpless, and needy. No compassion.

    · I'm glad this church needs money! If it didn't, it would mean it had "topped out" and was not interested in expanding into other areas of needed service. No vision.

    · I'm glad this church needs money! If it didn't, it would mean it was not interested in providing wholesome activities. No concern.

    · I'm glad this church needs money! If it didn't, it would mean it was not expanding outreach. No evangelism.

    · I'm glad this church needs money! If it didn't, it would mean it was not interested in teaching children in their impressionable, formative years. No future.

    · Yes sir, I'm glad this church needs money! The fact that it does means it had not forfeited its zeal, compassion, expansion, vision, concern, evangelism, or future. The church needs my gift, and I am glad of it. I would not want to be a member of any other kind.

    Thank You

Karen and I would like to thank everyone for the prayers and thoughts as we recover from our loss. Thank you. Myron and Karen shepherd
