TO ASSIST IN THE CARE OF A HURTING WORLD

You may recognize this phrase as part of the Vision of Faith Lutheran Church. We do things here in some ways to help care for a hurting world, we support OPEN M, we supply soup to hospice, we offer preschool and VBS to the community. There are those here, however, who believe we are called to much, much more.

About a year ago, many of us gathered to have dialogue about what we might do as some giant transforming outreach. Great ideas were generated and we prayed and waited for someone to say "Let's do. . . . ." to date, no one has stepped forward.

At the last Team Leader Meeting, again the subject was mentioned and this time we talked about how vital it is to our Christian development and growth as a congregation that we reach beyond our walls in bigger and bolder ways.

On Monday, July 24, you will have an opportunity to meet with like-minded people and discuss the next steps toward transforming outreach. ALL are invited to attend. Your input is welcome. The meeting will begin at 6:45 and end no later than 8:45. Child care and refreshments will be provided. Please mark your calendars and plan now to attend.

    Thanks for the memories!

The Faith Lutheran Church Scrapbook Collection currently resides in Pastor Jean's office. There you will find photos and memorabilia from the inception of Faith Lutheran Church through 2005. Under the organizational leadership of Judy Vernon, this church history ministry will continue to archive Faith events… with your help, of course!

If you have photographs and/or memorabilia from Faith events, please consider sharing a set of prints for posterity. We welcome photos from 2005 and any you have already taken in 2006. Drop them off in the box marked "Church Archives" in the cupboards near Pastor Jean's office. And please remember, throughout the year: if you are photographing a church event, develop a set of prints for the annual church scrapbook. And thanks for the memories!

    Summer Giving

We give thanks for the faithful giving of Faith members; your support of the church's ministry is APPRECIATED!

As summer approaches, and more and more folks are away on Sundays, the Finance Team encourages your continued financial support of our ministry … and wants to make it easy. Did you notice that in your envelope packet for July, August and September (it arrived recently in the mail) there are several envelopes that you can use to send your offering to the church? It will be great to see you in worship often this summer, but when you are unable to be here, it will be good to know you are remembering the church in your prayers and with your gifts!

    Farewell to Kent Marshall

Kent Marshall, who has been Facility Manager at Faith since August 2003, left at the end of June for a full-time job. We are grateful for Kent's presence and his work; we pray that he will sense God's guiding hand wherever he goes.

Faith member Chuck Baltes will be filling in as Facility Manager until the position is filled.

This part-time job requires 20 hours per week in the summer, and 30+ hours per week in the winter. It involves cleaning, room set up (moving tables and chairs), ordering and maintaining supplies, snow removal and overseeing preventative maintenance and repair services.

The Church Council and Staff Support Team is responsible for establishing a process to fill the position.

    THANK YOU

Thank you for your prayers and the beautiful shawl. I will wrap myself in it every time I take my "chemo". I know it will bring me comfort. Your caring and kindness will stay in my heart forever.

    Donna Hudson

    SCHOOL SUPPLIES PROJECT

Summer has just begun, but we're already thinking about the re-opening of school at the end of August. Once again, Summit County Children's Services is asking for our help in their annual campaign to collect and package school supplies. These donations provide school supplies to children in needy client families and to foster children. The goal is to help more than 1,000 children start the year with the necessary tools. The last day to bring in these supplies is Sunday, August 6.

    Faith Hosts Synod-Wide Farewell

Synod-Wide Farewell For Bishop Marcus and Kathy Miller Sunday, July 30 Reception, 3-5:30 p.m., Fellowship Hall - Worship, 5:30 p.m., Sanctuary

Bishop Miller has been called to serve as President of Lutheran Theological Seminary in Columbia, S.C. He begins his work there in mid-August. Please come and thank the Millers for their ministries in Northeastern Ohio and at Faith Lutheran Church.

As Bishop Miller Departs … What's Next?

An interim Bishop, appointed by Presiding Bishop Mark Hanson, will begin serving on August 1 in the Northeastern Ohio Synod. The synod staff will continue to carry out their regular responsibilities during the interim period.

A specially called synod assembly will be held December 1-2, 2006 for the purpose of electing a bishop. Those eligible to vote are all ordained ministers, associates in ministry, deaconesses of the ELCA on the synod's roster and at least two representatives from each congregation.

The new bishop's term will begin on February 1, 2007. That person will serve for a full six-year term. Any ordained pastor of the ELCA is eligible for election; it is not necessary that a pastor be rostered in this synod in order to be elected.

Prior to the December assembly conference meetings will be held to suggest, by ecclesiastical ballot, potential nominees for the office of Bishop. Information about those potential nominees will be distributed to the voting members of the special assembly prior to that gathering.
