NEW WORSHIP SCHEDULE
NEW WORSHIP SCHEDULE BEGINS - JUNE 19, 2005
9:15 a.m., Traditional Worship - in the Sanctuary; 1:30 a.m., Contemporary Worship - in the Fellowship Hall; Coffee House - 9:15-10:10 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall; 10:15-11:30 a.m. - in the Market Street Entryway
PARKING REQUEST
On June 19 the NEW worship schedule will begin at Faith Lutheran Church. Parking may be a bit tight, since there will be only 15 minutes between services, so the Church Council makes these suggestions.
PLEASE leave the first row of parking spaces, particularly those near the doors, for those with mobility challenges. WHY NOT get a bit of exercise by parking in the spaces in the far corners of the lot or in the bank parking lot to the east? REMEMBER, the West Market Street doors are unlocked; consider parking in front of the church (facing east) or in the parking lot across the street. LESS CONGESTION will occur if those attending the 9:15 a.m. service park on the west side of the lot and those attending 10:30 a.m. worship park on the east side.
We thank you in advance for your graciousness during this time of transition!!!
Worship Team
Worship Team Plans Liturgies for 9:15 a.m. service
When the new worship schedule begins on June 19 the liturgical (traditional) service will be held at 9:15 a.m. in the Sanctuary. The following format has been developed by the Worship Team for that service.
During all church seasons except Advent and Lent:
First, Second and Fourth Sundays – “Now the Feast and Celebration” Liturgy; Third and Fifth Sundays – Lutheran Book of Worship, Settings I and II; Holy Communion will be celebrated on the First and Third Sundays.
During the seasons of Advent and Lent: A new (to Faith) liturgy will be learned and used during both seasons.; Holy Communion will be celebrated weekly. Also, the Order of Service will be changed for special services and when there is a combined service. This format will be evaluated for continued use in June 2006.

Explorer’s Club
Explorer’s Club Welcomes New “Captains”
After many years at the “helm” of Explorer’s Club, Dana Singer has asked to step down and use her gifts and talents to serve God in other areas. We thank Dana for the fun, creativity, and spontaneity she poured upon this program and wish her well as she continues to serve. Thanks, too, to Barb Hinderegger (a fairly new member of Faith) who helped Dana this year.
We are thrilled to say that after a time of prayer and discernment, two new people have stepped forward to fill these important ministry positions. Heather Stafford and Barry White will be leading Explorer’s Club into our new school year. Both are gifted and qualified for this important area of ministry. We ask your prayers and support for Barry and Heather as well as our entire Explorer’s Staff as they serve God in this way.

Synod Assembly
Northeastern Ohio Synod Assembly Summary
April 30, 2005 - John S. Knight Center—Akron
Bishop Marcus Miller presided and preached at the opening eucharist, reminding the assembly that there is too much death around us, but that as we are Easter people we are taught that Christ visits us in the midst of death. He is with us forever and there will be a reunion in heaven. In the midst of death we say “Christ Is risen! He is risen indeed, Alleluia!” The way to make the journey is to believe in Christ’s death and resurrection.
Special Event - Dr. Lance Masters, president of Thiel College, presented an honorary degree, Doctor of Divinity, to Bishop Marcus J. Miller on behalf of the college, thanking him for his compassionate leadership in ministry.
Recognized Anniversaries:
Congregations - 175th: Caanan, Creston; St. John, Lakeville (McZena); Oakland, Mansfield; St. Michael, Marshallville; Jerusalem, Seville. 50th: Faith, Fairlawn; Messiah, Newton Falls.
Sexuality Report. Three options (A,B, or C) were presented, discussed and voted on this subject. The assembly recommended that the NEOS memorialize the 2005 ELCA Churchwide Assembly to adopt the following resolution as a substitute for the ELCA Church Council recommendations: That the ELCA (1) Affirm and uphold current policy and practices consistent with past understandings of Visions and Expectations, Definitions and Guidelines for Discipline, and the social statements of the LCA and the ALC; (2) Admonish individuals, communities, congregations, and synods that any discipline that may result in response to actions contrary to those policies be undertaken with all humility in the knowledge that we see through the glass darkly. May we forgive as we wish to be forgiven. Remembering the log in in our own eye, may Christian charity guide our ways; and (3) Beseech individuals, communities, congregations, and synods, who for reasons of conscience will act contrary to the aforementioned policies, to graciously accept and endure the discipline of the church for the sake of peace, secure in the knowledge “that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.” (Romans 8:18)
The assembly closed with the installation of newly-elected persons, and the commissioning of the 23 youth and adult workers who will be traveling to our companion synod, the Northern Dioscese of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Southern Africa in June 2005.

Space Report
The Space Utilization Task Force wishes to thank all members of Faith who attended the two “Space Forums” in April and who completed the Space Questionnaires at the church services on May 1st. The Task Force is now studying all of the information gleaned from this effort. Extensive notes have been compiled from the two Forums (attended by 50 people), six single-spaced pages of questionnaire comments have been collated, and an analysis of 185 questionnaires has been completed. Members of the Task Force are now writing summaries that will eventually be combined to form a report to the congregation. The completed report is anticipated by early summer. Members of the Task Force are: Wendy Boes, Dineen Dowling, DuWayne Hansen, Ole Latham, Garth McHenry, Rae Welker, Carrie Wells, and Pastor Jean Hansen.
SPRING CLEANUP DAY
A SUCCESS!
Many thanks to all those who worked this year to make our annual Spring Cleanup Day a success! Thirty-seven of Faith's faithful washed windows, hauled and spread mulch, filled in low places in the lawn, painted, beautified the courtyard, spread crushed stones, and so forth.
Patti White provided a filling lunch after the work ceased. A big "thanks" to those who helped organize the day's activities and to everyone who helped out!
Endowment
The Endowment Committee extends its sincere “THANKS” to the entire Faith congregation for the prayers and financial contributions in support of Endowment Sunday. So far this year, the Endowment Fund has received 25 cash contributions (totaling $29,100) and 7 planned gifts--- in pursuit of its goal of $50,000 and 50 planned gifts.
The current campaign continues through Faith’s 50th anniversary celebration in September. Since only income from the Fund is used for charitable purposes, a gift to the Endowment Fund “gives” year after year. If it is within your means, please consider a gift. Pamphlets are located outside of the Fellowship Hall or you can see any committee member for more information.
Your Endowment Committee: Bill Evans, Don Johnson, Ann Snyder Britton, Lowell Unger, Mark Watkins and Pastor Jean Hansen
