  • A MOST Important Day

Sunday, November 18 Combined Worship Service and Annual Meeting - One Service 9:15 a.m. in the Sanctuary We gather together to give thanks for our Faith Family!

The congregation’s Annual Meeting will IMMEDIATELY follow worship. A report will be given on the 2b Transformed Capital Campaign. The congregation will decide about proceeding to the next step in the proposed CHURCH BUILDING PROJECT. Please do not miss this vital meeting!

NOTES TO PARENTS - The nursery will be available for worship and the meeting. The children will begin worship in the sanctuary, participate in the Kid’s Sermon and then proceed upstairs for Kid’s Church. They will not be brought down for Holy Communion. Activities for children will continue during the Annual Meeting. Youth and Adult groups will not be meeting.

    Community Thanksgiving Worship

Hosted by the West Akron Churches - 9 a.m., Thursday, November 22 St. Hilary Catholic Church Everyone is invited to give thanks together! The offering supports the dictionary project of the Akron Public School

    Announcements In Worship Changed

Put It In Print! - Beginning on December 2 the announcements given at BOTH worship services will ONLY include a welcome to visitors and any information specific to that worship service or day. All information about events and activities will be in PRINT (as long as it has been submitted to the church office), and worshippers will be referred to the Weekly Beacon or Insert. This change will lessen the time required in the worship service for announcements.

WHEN SUBMITTING AN ITEM TO THE WEEKLY BEACON or for an INSERT: Remember that the deadline for both is NOON on Tuesday for the next Sunday. Exceptions will not be made since this creates extra work for the church office. Please indicate the publication dates that are being requested. Items may be sent to faith2726@sbcglobal.net. While items may be run multiple times in the Weekly Beacon, an insert for an event will be included only ONCE. Please remember too that all “Temple Talks” by congregation members must be arranged with Pastor Jean or Sheila Knops PRIOR TO the Sunday they are presented.

    STEPHEN MINISTRY

On November 18, we will joyfully commission our new group of Stephen Ministers. These people have faithfully attended over 50 hours of training classes and learned to give care and compassion in the name of Jesus.

We hope you will attend worship on the 18th of November to celebrate this important new ministry at Faith. Even if you aren’t a Stephen Minister, you can help make our mission a success by praying that God will give our new team patience, courage, and strength as they strive to offer Christian care-giving to those in need.

It will also be helpful if you let Pastor Jean or Carolyn know of people who might be interested in having a Stephen Minister. It is important to remember that this is a ministry of Faith Lutheran Church, not just a few people. The effectiveness of this new team is up to all of us

    HELPING OTHERS

Once again social service agencies have begun to see if the good people of FLC would be willing to help adopt families for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. Every year many of you step forward to help with this important ministry. Please prayerfully consider if God is calling you to help this year.

We usually ask for grocery cards or gift cards to stores like Target or WalMart so that some of us can shop for the families. In some cases, we give the cards to the social workers so they can provide a warm holiday.

No matter how we do it, each year we are able to touch several area families that would not have a good holiday without us. In this small way, we are making a difference in the world and helping God’s kingdom to come!

    Youth

FaithKids has had an amazing start to the school year! This is due in large part to our dedicated teaching staff at Sunday School and Children’s Church and to our terrific parents and their energetic children. It’s wonderful to see the kids’ smiles and hear their infectious laughter as they learn and grow in faith each week!

Thank you for your patience as we have implemented our new check-in procedure. Please know that this is in place for every child’s safety and security. Also, there are a few family registration forms that need to be completed and returned, so if you haven’t already, please return your green registration forms the next time you bring your children to FaithKids. A Note from Janice and Lucius!

Things are going well with the youth! Youth gatherings are continuing to grow in both the number of youth attending events, and in the expectations for the events. The future holds a lot of hope for the continuation of successful youth programs. The best way to achieve this success is with the involvement of more of the congregation. Not only will more involvement provide more perspectives on the types of programs, but it will also offer more detail to be incorporated into individual events. With this in mind we are asking for your help in forming a group of volunteers to aid in the operation of youth events. This will range from simply proposing ideas to chaperoning or organizing an outing. If you are interested in being a part of youth programs please contact Janice Wedge at janicewedge@yahoo.com to let us know of your interest. Thank you for your support.

    Fall Lock In!!

All high school aged youth are invited to join us for the fall Lock In. We will begin on November 9th at roughly 6 p.m. and will continue until the next morning around 9 a.m. We expect to have a great time with a number of exciting activities! Please RSVP with Janice Wedge (janicewedge@yahoo.com) by November 7th so we can make sure appropriate provisions are obtained. Because of the Lock In there will be no youth group on Sunday November 11th. If you can’t arrive for the beginning at 6 p.m. please let us know when you expect to arrive. So come join us and spend a night in the church!

    Confirmation Retreat

The fall confirmation retreat will be held on Saturday November 17th. We will meet at the church at 11 a.m. and dismiss from the church at 5 p.m. Lunch will be provided. This is an excellent opportunity for the youth to get to know each other and form some of the bonds that help to foster a real sense community within the church.

    Chocolate Sales

In November - Women of the ELCA are celebrating their 20th birthday this year and we have chosen to support Lutheran World Relief with the Divine Chocolate Sale.

Every time you give money to a cause the question is always there - is it really helping someone? Lutheran World Relief has been analyzed and it is one of the outstanding organizations to make sure that contributions get to the people who need the help. With their joining with the cocoa farmers in Ghana they have eliminated the middlemen so that the farmers get the profits coming to them. The farmers

use that profit to send their children to school not to slave on the farm. They improve their drinking water and living standards and have mobilized medical carts to help others in the country with low medical standards.

They are so proud of the quality of their chocolate that they encourage buying chocolate during the cooler seasons: October through May. This is a perfect product for Christmas, Easter and family gatherings. Buy, taste and buy more at the rummage sale and after church the three weekends in November.

Norma Setteur President of Women of the ELCA, FLC

    Salvation Army Angel Tree Project

Faith Lutheran Church will once again help the Salvation Army bring cheer into the lives of area children this holiday season.

Look for the Angel Tree in the narthex. The tree will have children’s names, ages, and gift ideas on an angel tag for you to choose. Your gifts will be going to children who might not otherwise receive anything on Christmas morning.

Please bring your unwrapped gifts with name tags attached to the church by December 9 and place under the Angel Tree.
