  • Stewardship Emphasis 2005

Giving: A Family Affair - This year's Stewardship emphasis focuses on each member of our congregation - young and old alike - as a part of our Faith family and of a Lutheran family. Each person has an important role to play in this family as we give of ourselves and of our resources to further the ministry of Jesus Christ.

Sunday, October 2 - Giving: A Family Affair for this Faith Family - Our congregation is a Family that does ministry together, made up to people of all ages, with a variety of gifts. Time and Talent Sheets will be distributed during worship. Why not discuss how each person in the family can serve - either with other family members or alone? Are you single? Have you considered sharing a ministry with someone or getting their input on your trying something new?

An article offering tips on encouraging kids to share and serve will be shared. Parents … have you thought about involving youth/children in conversations about the family's financial commitment to the church, or guiding older children/youth to make a commitment themselves? This is important for the spiritual well-being of our children and the future health of the church.

October 9 - Giving: A Family Affair for this Lutheran Family - A video from the Northeastern Ohio Synod - which happens to feature three members of Faith Lutheran Church - will be shown at both services (if technology permits.) It reminds us of the "bigger picture" and the role we play as part of this Synod and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA).

During the week … please spend some time in prayerful consideration about your financial support of Faith Lutheran Church in 2006. Then, next Sunday come prepared to complete an Estimate of Giving card on which you will make an estimate of what they will give to the general and the building/grounds fund in 2006.

October 16 - Giving: A Family Affair for God's Family - This is Commitment Sunday! The sermon will be based on Matthew 22:15-22. What does it mean to be a part of this worldwide family? How does a child of God render to God what is God's?

Estimate of Giving cards will be distributed and filled out during the services and brought forward, along with Time and Talent Sheets, as an act of worship. Why not attend as a family and bring these commitments up together?

    Reminder:

The Affirmation of Baptism (Confirmation) Service for youth who have completed their confirmation requirements will be held during 9:15 a.m. worship on October 30, Reformation Sunday. Practice is tentatively set for 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 29. (Please contact Pastor Jean concerning any conflicts with the practice, so that needed adjustment can be made.)

    Organ Repairs

Organ Repairs Are On the Horizon - As Faith members consider their commitments to the Building and Grounds Fund in 2006 the Church Council would like the congregation to know that nearly $8,700 in repairs to the organ have been scheduled in 2006. These are repairs that are to be expected in the organ at this stage in its life.

In order to do this work, as well as to continue regular upkeep and special projects in the rest of the building, members are asked to consider increasing their pledge to the Building and Grounds fund as well as their pledge to the General Fund. An increase of 1 or 2 percent in each area can be a significant help in meeting the congregation's financial needs!

    Clara's Club

Clara's Club is a wonderful cross-generational ministry here at Faith, and this year we are excited to introduce a fresh approach to bringing our younger and older generations together, sharing and witnessing Christ's love through classroom activities, worship services, and special events. In the past, a Clara's Club guide and an Explorers' Club child have built one-on-one relationships beginning with the First Grade Bible Presentation Special Worship Service. This nurturing relationship then continued throughout the child's years in Explorers' Club, usually sixth grade.

Beginning this year, Clara's Club will be comprised of two groups of five or six adult guides who will be actively involved in the 1st & 2nd grade Explorers' Club classroom lessons and activities, led by the classroom teachers. One group will mentor the 9:15 a.m. 1st and 2nd graders and one group will mentor the 10:30 a.m. 1st and 2nd graders. Clara's Club will also continue the tradition of Bible presentation to 1st graders during worship and participate in special events. This will be a one-year commitment for the Clara's Club guide. Our hope is that through this new approach, more children will be blessed with the amazing experience of spiritual interaction between the younger and older generations within our Faith family, continuing the legacy and loving devotion to children of Faith charter member Clara Frankenfield.

Thank you to all of our past and present Clara's Club guides for your service in this ministry. If you desire to continue your relationship with your current Explorers' Club child, you are certainly encouraged to do so, and we hope that you will prayerfully consider participating as a Clara's Club 2005-2006 guide. The following is the schedule of Clara's Club 2005-2006 events.

    Sunday, October 23, 2005 - Clara's Club Classroom Kick-Off, Guide groups visit and participate in 1st & 2nd grade classroom. 1-hour commitment at 9:15 a.m. or 10:30 a.m.

    Sunday, February 12, 2006 - Guide groups visit and participate in 1st & 2nd grade classroom. 1-hour commitment at 9:15 a.m. or 10:30 a.m.

    Task Force Groups

Task Force Groups Are Forming - To Study Space Needs

The Church Council is forming two Task Forces to study and make recommendations in the following areas: Educational needs, including space requirements for adult, youth and children's ministries and clarification of the Faith Preschool's mission and space needs in light of that mission.

Entrance and Gathering Space needs, including how to create a larger and more attractive entrance to the church, and if there is a need for a Gathering Space for greeting visitors, etc…. The goal is for the Task Forces to be formed and begin meeting this month.

    From Bill Evans

Endowment Committee Chair - It is time to give thanks to the Congregation for its support in reaching and then far exceeding the 2005 Sow and Grow Endowment goals. It seems whenever asked, the congregation responds in ways that can only be possible through the Holy Spirit. The 50th Year Anniversary celebration was the perfect time to engage the enthusiasm and momentum to make Endowment a mission that will keep on giving.

There have been so many volunteers who made it possible to achieve $55,000 and 15 planned gifts, as of this date, September 19, 2005. A special thanks is in order to the Endowment Committee members, the Church staff and Pastor Jean.

It is our hope that we can begin an "Endowment Awareness Week", once a year, so as to reflect upon Endowment for the benefit of future generations.
