    How Important ARE Our Children?

Here at Faith, we think children are very important. That is one reason we so generously supported the Great American Bake Sale (which helps feed hungry kids in this country.) We've decided not to stop there, however, and to devote even more time, energy, and resources to helping our children and other children. Now we ask the question, "How can we do that?"

One thing you can do if you have children is to make sure they attend worship regularly. We offer worship at 8 am and 10:45 am so that children can attend Explorer's Club and still go to worship with their families. This instills in our kids the sense of community that corporate worship provides so well.

After the kids are in Explorer's and worship, what else? There are many exciting possibilities! We might start an after school tutoring program, we might begin clubs for some of our younger kids, we might go into the community and see what the needs of the children around us are. The possibilities are endless, but we need YOUR help.

    Sally Foster and Butter Braids

Again this year, Faith Preschool will hold a fundraiser to benefit both the Preschool and the church. Sally Foster gift wrap and Butter Braids will be sold from September 15 through October 3, with delivery of orders at the beginning of November-in plenty of time for Christmas. Those who have ordered in the past are familiar with the quality of these items-we hope those who haven't will give it a try! The preschool retains 50% of all sale proceeds, money which is then re-invested in needed improvements to Preschool and Sunday School classrooms. Please help support Faith Lutheran Church and Preschool by purchasing your gift wrap through this fundraiser. Orders can be placed at the Preschool office or see Wendy Boes. Watch for more information in the Weekly Beacon. Thank you!

Attention: Parents of Middle School Youth

The orientation meeting for the Confirmation program will be at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 8 in the sanctuary. All 7th and 8th graders, and a parent, are asked to attend. Please watch your mail for more information about this gathering and the Confirmation schedule.

    Clara's Club

Clara's Club next event is at the third worship service on October 17. Please give prayerful consideration to Jesus' statement: "When you do it for the least of these, you do it for me". Then, consider being "guides" for the newest members of Clara' Club.

Clara's Club adult members are asked to connect with the child and his/her parents during at least three worship services each school year (the first being in October, then December and finally at the Explorer's last Sunday in May.) Dates, times and places of gatherings are published in the "Beacon of Faith" and church bulletins. Questions and/or comments are welcome; contact Bill Pope at 330-867-4946.

    OPPORTUNITY IS KNOCKING

Here's your chance to learn the secret..... of making huge pots of soup!

The Hospice Soup Ministry is looking to fill some vacancies on the Saturday soup crews. Work hours are approximately 9am to 12 noon, one Saturday a month. Duties include chopping vegetables, stirring soup, washing containers, packaging the soup and the all important duty of eating a bowl of soup to test its quality.

If you are interested in applying for a position as one of Ken's Soupers or want more information please call Sally Hauth, (330) 825-8477.

    WE SAY YES

Theme Of 2004 Stewardship Emphasis - September 12 - We Say Yes … To Faith-filled Christian Fellowship - We will welcome our sisters and brothers in faith from Calvary Lutheran Church in East Cleveland, many of whom are new arrivals from Liberia. One service will be held at 10 a.m., followed by the church picnic.

September 19 - We Say Yes … To Faith-filled Ministry for 50 Years and Beyond - Reflection on how during the past 50 years the people of Faith Lutheran Church have said "YES" to ministry, and how that will continue in the future.

September 26 - We Say Yes … To Faith-filled Sharing of Gifts - We all have gifts to share … time, talents, resources … a humorous skit will encourage worshippers to consider how to dedicate them to God with gratitude.

    Interested in our Community?

Please join Pastor, Carolyn, and other Lutherans from this area when we attend the "Claimed, Gathered, Sent" seminar on Saturday, September 18, 2004. The seminar is from 8:45 until noon and will be held at St. Jacob Lutheran Church in North Canton. This seminar has to do with providing outreach to our community. Since this is an important part of the vision here at Faith, we hope many of you will plan to attend. Car pools and child care can be provided if needed. We need to know by September 10 how many are coming, so please call the church office or talk to Carolyn.

NEW ADULT BOOK/BIBLE CONVERSATION - COMING SOON! - HOW SUCCESSFUL DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?

We know that success is measured in many ways. As Christians, we look at success through a slightly different "lens" than the rest of the world. During this six week series, we will be studying the book "Today Matters" by John C. Maxwell. John Maxwell is a pastor who also works with leadership in corporate America to help people be successful in ways that really count.

Everyone can learn something about being happier, more fulfilled, or having a closer walk with the Lord. You are invited to join on Wednesday mornings from 10:30 - 11:30 or Wednesday evenings from 7:00 -8:00. The group will meet from September 22 through October 27. Child care will be provided. Friends and neighbors are welcome.

You do not need to purchase Maxwell's book, but it would be helpful. "Today Matters" can be found at Berean Christian Stores, Borders Books, and Barnes and Noble.

Remember the great food and fellowship of our Lenten season?

Let's enjoy that again as we prepare for the arrival of the baby Jesus. This year during Advent, we will have "Wonderful Wednesdays during Delightful December". Each Wednesday night in December (December 1,8,15, and 22) we will have a meal together followed by special learning and conversational opportunities for children and adults and conclude each Wonderful Wednesday with a short worship experience. Tentative time schedule for this Advent adventure will be meal at 6:15 p.m., "classes" from 6:45 - 7:40 p.m. and closing devotions at 7:45 p.m. Our "Wonderful Wednesdays" will culminate on December 29 with a Christmas Party!

We realize that December is a super busy month for people and so it seems very appropriate that we take time each week to focus on preparing to welcome the Christ-child. By making fellowship time and worship a priority during Advent, you will be helping to place the events of the season in their proper perspective.

So flip open your calendar to December, set aside Wednesday evenings, and stay tuned for more details!
