Scrap Metal! - The youth group plans on hosting a continuing scrap metal drive! All contributions are welcome, and will help to fund youth activities as well as future mission trips. Everything from beverage cans to old (nonfunctioning) dishwashers can be scrapped, so let us take your extra metal. Cans may be brought to Church and left in the recycling container next to the vending machine. If you would like to donate anything heavier or bulky please contact Janice and Lucius Wedge (330-836-2873) and we will make arrangements to move the items. Thanks so much!
Drink Coke? - Do you drink Coke products? Do you just throw away the caps and box tops without a second thought? If you answered yes to either of these questions we could use your help. We are collecting the codes for Coke products found on the caps and box tops for the youth! We’ll see if a collected effort can result in something fun! If you’d like to contribute codes you can just leave them in our box or email us!
Capital Campaing Update - 2b Transformed
Gathering & Growing Disciples for Mission
Faith Lutheran Church is about to be transformed! During worship on Sunday, August 12, Cargill consultant, Jim Graham, introduced the plans for our Capital Campaign and explained the calendar of upcoming events.
Team Leaders are already at work planning special events for the months of September and October. We will celebrate our current ministries and share our dreams of new ways to fulfill the mission of sharing the Good News with others. Our hope during this intense two-month campaign is… that each one of us experiences the transforming power of the Holy Spirit; that each one of us embraces the desire to gather together in unity in Christ; that each one of us commits to grow into disciples prepared for mission in the world.
The official kick-off for the campaign is Vision Awareness Sunday, September 23. Look forward to a short movie about Faith’s hopes and dreams for gathering and growing disciples for mission. Pastor Jean will preach on the theme: “Be Strong and Act” using 1 Chronicles 28:9-12a,20 and 29:6,9,10-16, and Luke 16:1-13. Adult classes will also offer study and discussion of this special sermon series.
This Capital Campaign is all about being transformed - individually and communally. For Faith Lutheran Church to be transformed into a building that is able to offer more ministry opportunities, we need to be a church body that is willing to be transformed by the Holy Spirit. Let us prepare our hearts and minds to be transformed! May God bless your faith journey!
Rummage Sale News
Rummage Sale Drop Off will begin on Tuesday, October 30. NOT BEFORE! We do not have storage space.
Items may be dropped off in the North side of the Fellowship Hall. Please bring your items in bags and boxes only; no loose items. If you need assistance unloading, someone will be available weekday mornings until noon.
Each One Teach One
For most of us donating food, clothing and/or money to people in need is not too difficult. Much more challenging is donation of time and self. The tutoring program at Channelwood Village in downtown Akron begins for the third year with tutor orientation Tuesday evening September 18 from 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. at Channelwood. Registration for students will be the following Tuesday, September 25 at the same time. Tutoring sessions begin October 2 and continue every Tuesday evening from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. during the school year.
Please consider donating your life skills, your Christian concern, your faith and your time to a young student (grades 1-6). For many of these children the one hour of tutoring each week is the only time someone can give them total attention.
Volunteering to become personally involved is harder, but fortunately much more rewarding. Join us. Call Shirley Duffy at (330) 650-6716.
Disaster Response Training
Members of Faith Lutheran Church are invited to participate in a Disaster Response Training with other area Lutherans on October 6 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 3281 S. Cleveland-Massillon Rd. in Norton. The Level I training will take place from 9 a.m. to Noon. Level I is an overview of disaster response and will assist participants in identifying areas of strengths during times of disaster.
Level II training will be directly after Level I from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Level II training covers volunteer coordination, donations management, spiritual care, individual preparedness and congregational preparedness.
The state of Ohio averages three disasters annually. Lutheran Social Services of Central Ohio, under the direction of Mary Woodward and Tammy Ramage, provide disaster response coordination and disaster preparedness training in the state and surrounding areas. The training is open to anyone. A $25 fee will cover the manual, identification badge and card, certificate, T-shirt and Level I and II training. If you would like to participate, please contact Pastor Jean. Or, call Trinity Lutheran Church at 330-825-3217 for more information.
