WASSAIL
Contributed by: Vicki Cowell-Foss

This is wonderful for the holidays or any time thru fall and winter. At St. Timothy, Mansfield, after Christmas Eve services the choir and many others went on to Jessie Van Auker's home for an open house. Yes, it started at midnight! You know how Lutherans are, anything even related to a potluck, count us in! Jessie's now retired as Director of Nursing at Mifflin Care Nursing Home in Mansfield. She's the greatest bible teacher ever! Anyway, this wassail was always a favorite. We then used it during coffetime on Sundays at Christmas time, and between Christmas Eve services in the fellowship hall. It's wonderful and makes your house smell wonderful. Hope you all enjoy this.

Into a crockpot/on high; (I cover my crockpot with wrapping paper or tie a holiday towel around, then a corded tassel)

1-12 oz frozen apple juice mixed as directed or 1 1/2 qts. of cider
2c. cranberry juice
1c. orange juice
2 t. aromatic bitters
6-8 in. cinnamon sticks
12 whole cloves in a tea ball or cheesecloth
1/2 c sugar ( I never add any)

Cut an orange in flat rounds about 1/2 in thick or less and stud with whole cloves to float on top. Heat on high for about 30 min then remove whole spices.
