(FSF) - Confirmation Assignments
Confirmation Program 2002-2003 Requirements
Confirmation Schedule

Attendance Requirements

There are 16 two-hour class sessions per year. In order for the class to be counted as one the student attended he/she must be present for at least 110 minutes. Attendance is essential. No student will be confirmed with less than 14 attendance credits per year.

After two absences in the same year, students will meet with the Pastor to review the material covered in any missed class. The Pastor will call to schedule the meeting once, and then it is up to the student/parent to follow-up. Attendance credits for an absence will be given only after the student has met with the Pastor and completed the missed work satisfactorily.

Homework Requirements

The only homework will be some memory work each year (Books of the Bible, Apostle's Creed, Lord's Prayer, Ten Commandments and selected scripture passages.) Students are required to recite, or write, these items from memory with minimal errors.

The major homework will be living out one's faith.

Service Requirements
Time Frame, September 2002 to September 2003

Students are required to do service projects in four areas each year:

  1. A service project(s) within the church other than those listed in #3 and #4 below. This may be done in multiple units or at one time, but must total three hours. Each student/parent is responsible for arranging these service opportunities and completing/turning in a "Confirmation Service Hours Form". EXAMPLES: Serving as a reader in worship, participating in a FLIRT production, providing special music for worship, serving as an usher with an adult, preparing the sanctuary or fellowship hall for worship, helping make soup, assisting with outside work, committing oneself to praying for those on the prayer chain, etc…. In each case it will be necessary to make arrangements with the person in charge of that ministry.
  2. A service project (total of three hours) outside of the church for which you are not remunerated in any way. This may be done in multiple units or at one time, but must total three hours. Each student/parent is responsible for arranging these service opportunities and completing/turning in a "Confirmation Service Hours Form". EXAMPLES: Providing childcare, doing work for someone who needs assistance, volunteering at Open M, Habitat for Humanity or another community organization, etc….
  3. Serving as an acolyte when assigned to do so.
  4. Assisting with the Easter Breakfast or, if out of town, another group activity at the church.
Acolyte Duty Requirements
Time Frame, September 2002 to September 2003

Confirmation students serve as acolytes at the 8 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. services on Holy Communion Sundays (only) throughout the year. Students will receive an acolyte schedule in the mail. You are responsible to either be present for the date and time listed, or find a substitute and notify the church office. NOTE: An acolyte is needed on Communion Sundays especially; failing to be present or to find a substitute creates difficulties for the congregation.

Worship Attendance
Time Frame, September 2002 to September 2003

There will be no sermon summary requirements. HOWEVER it is hoped that confirmation students will attend worship weekly. The confirmation requirement is that students will attend worship (any of the three Sunday services) no less that 26 times during the year. It will be the student's responsibility to sign the attendance sheet or card so that his/her attendance can be documented. It is important that each person do so him or herself rather than having a parents or friend do so, since handwriting will be checked.

Exam Requirements

Any exam will be announced before it is given. Students scoring less than 65 percent will retake any exams until they pass.

Class Rules

Ask yourself, "What Would Jesus Do?"
Be respectful.
Follow the 10 Commandments.
Be guided by the "greatest" commandment.
