DLM Service Opportunities

Apr 28, 2022

The last DLM program took place on Saturday, March 5 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church at 50 N. Prospect. DLM Food and Resources is a joint project with the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and Project Rise of Akron Public Schools. It honors the late Debra Manteghi, who spearheaded Project Rise. Through this service homeless students and their families have access to food, clothing, hygiene supplies and helpful information.  We provided prepared meals and

assisted with the provision of clothing and other items. About 20 of our members worked on that March Saturday. Additionally, some of our members also participate in delivering packaged food and other items to recipients in their own homes. The remaining dates for DLM service this year are:

  • May 14th
  • June 11th
  • July 9th
  • August 6th
  • September 3rd or 10th (TBD)
  • October 8th
  • November 5th

As an aside, in our work with this mission we learned that there are more than1,800 students in the Akron Public Schools who are homeless and/or have no address or permanent domicile. One of Project Rise’s service is the production and distribution of the Akron Street Card. This small, printed brochure provides contact and linking information to hundreds of free health and social services in the city. Please ask the Outreach Coordinator if you would like to obtain some of these.
